Rollo printers print in black only, at a standard resolution of 203 dpi. Rollo does not print color, and because it is a direct thermal printer, it never needs ink, toner, or ribbon.

What is the print resolution?

203 dpi is the standard (and maximum) resolution on Rollo printers. This is the normal resolution for thermal shipping label printers, and shipping labels and barcodes print clearly at 203 dpi.

My label file or barcode app says it needs 300 dpi. Will it still print?

Yes. Rollo can still print files and images designed at 300 dpi. The printout may look slightly different from the original file because the printer outputs at 203 dpi, but labels and barcodes generally print and scan fine. If a printed barcode will not scan, contact support, and we can troubleshoot with you.

Does Rollo print color?

No. Rollo does not print color. All Rollo printers print in black only. This applies to every model, including the USB and wireless printers. Direct thermal printing works by heating the label material, so there is no ink or toner to swap for color. If your workflow requires full-color labels, a Rollo thermal printer is not the right tool for that job.

How long does a Rollo printer last?

Rollo printers are built for everyday small business shipping, and lifespan depends on how much you print and how you treat the printer. Two care tips that help:

Keep the printer flat on a stable surface. Mounting it sideways or at an angle can cause malfunctions or damage over time.

Use quality direct thermal labels. Rollo works with standard direct thermal labels from any supplier, no proprietary labels required.
