If Windows cannot detect your Rollo, shows it as an unknown or no-name device, or says the driver is unavailable, a full driver reinstall fixes it in most cases. The steps below cover the quick checks first, then the complete reinstall, then the two special cases (ARM computers and Windows S mode) that block the standard driver.

Quick checks first

1. Unplug the USB cable from your computer, wait 15 seconds, and plug it into a different USB port.

2. If you have a spare USB cable, try it. A worn cable is a common cause of "USB device not recognized" errors.

3. Plug the printer's power adapter directly into a wall outlet and make sure the printer is switched on (the switch is at the back).

4. If the printer runs through a USB hub, dock, or USB-C adapter, try plugging it into the computer directly or through a different adapter.

5. Restart your computer and check Settings, then Bluetooth & devices, then Printers & scanners, to see if the Rollo appears.

Full driver reinstall (fixes most cases)

If the quick checks did not help, remove everything Rollo-related and reinstall from a clean slate.

1. Unplug the printer's USB cable from your computer. Leave it unplugged during the whole reinstall.

2. Type Control Panel in the search box next to the Start button and open it.

3. Go to Uninstall a Program, find the Rollo driver, and uninstall it.

4. Still in Control Panel, open Devices and Printers and remove every Rollo printer listed there, including duplicates like "Rollo Printer (Copy 1)."

5. Press the Windows key + R to open Run, type shell: PrintersFolder, and press Enter. Remove any Rollo printers still listed there.

6. Reset the print spooler. Click Start, search for CMD, right-click Command Prompt, and choose Run as administrator. Then type these commands one at a time, pressing Enter after each:

   - net stop spooler

   - del %systemroot%\System32\spool\printers\* /Q /F /S

   - net start spooler

7. Restart your computer.

8. Download the latest Rollo Windows driver from rollo.com/setup-usb, extract the zip file, right-click the installer, and choose Run as administrator.

9. Once the install finishes, load your labels (peelable side facing up), then press and hold the circular button on top of the printer until you hear one beep and let go. The labels will move back and forth. This recalibrates the printer.

10. Plug the USB cable back in, ideally to a different USB port than before, and print the sample label at rollo.com/sample.

If the installer shows a DPInst.exe error (ARM computers)

The standard Rollo driver works on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows running on x86 processors. It does not run on ARM-based computers (Snapdragon processors, Surface Pro, and most tablet or touch computers). If you see an error mentioning DPInst.exe, check your processor: go to Settings, then System, then About, and look at the System type line.

If your computer is ARM-based, please contact Rollo Support for alternative solutions.  - Added this, good?

If the driver will not install at all (Windows S mode)

Windows 11 computers in S mode only allow apps from the Microsoft Store, so the Rollo installer cannot run. To check, go to Settings, then System, then About. If the Edition line includes "in S mode," you will need to switch out of S mode before installing.

1. Follow Microsoft's official guide for switching out of S mode (search "switching out of S mode" on support.microsoft.com).

2. Note that switching out of S mode is one-way and cannot be undone, but it is free.

3. After switching, run the Rollo driver installer again.

If Windows shows a duplicate or "Copy 1" printer

If Windows created an extra entry like "Rollo Printer (Copy 1)," print jobs sent to the old entry go nowhere. Remove all Rollo entries (steps 4 and 5 of the full reinstall above), then reinstall the driver so only one Rollo printer remains, and make sure your apps print to that entry.
