Rates in Rollo Ship often differ from the price on a carrier's website because USPS, UPS and Canada Post are built in with discounted rates, while FedEx and Purolator are bring-your-own-account and show your own negotiated rates. Package size, surcharges, the service, and the ship date also change the price, so two quotes match only when every detail matches.
1. Built-in carriers use discounted rates
USPS and UPS (U.S.) and Canada Post and UPS (Canada) are built into Rollo Ship with discounted rates. Savings can reach up to 90% off. For USPS, the comparison point is the price you would pay at the post office counter. UPS discounts are off UPS daily rates.*
*Discounts off UPS daily rates. Rates are limited to shipping from the U.S. only. Rates and any applicable discounts are subject to change at any time without notice.
Canada-origin UPS discounts are limited to shipping from Canada only.
Savings vary by service, weight, dimensions, and zone, and some services carry little or no discount.
2. FedEx and Purolator show your own negotiated rates
FedEx and Purolator are bring-your-own-account carriers. Purolator is available only on Canadian accounts, not U.S. accounts. Rollo Ship shows your own negotiated rates on the account you connect, with no Rollo discount, so they should be close to what that account shows elsewhere.
3. Dimensions and dimensional weight
Many services price a package on whichever is higher: its actual weight or its dimensional (size-based) weight. If you enter different dimensions in Rollo Ship and on a carrier website, the rates won't match. Use the dimensional weight calculator to check.
4. Surcharges and options
- UPS rates in Rollo Ship include Fuel Surcharge and Residential Surcharge for all services and Delivery Area Surcharge for domestic services. A notice may show when a Delivery Area surcharge was added.
- Signature confirmation and insurance (declared value) add to the price on supported services.
- Duties, taxes, and brokerage on international shipments are billed separately by the carrier.
5. Service, route and date
A carrier website may default to a different service, ship date, or residential vs. commercial address than the quote you are looking at in Rollo Ship. Compare the same service, the same addresses, and the same ship date.
6. The price can change after you buy
A carrier can re-rate a label (a label means the shipping service you selected and paid for postage) after purchase if the actual weight or dimensions differ from what you entered, or if a surcharge applies. Measure and weigh each package so the label matches what you ship.
How to compare fairly
- Measure the box and weigh the packed package.
- Enter the same From and To addresses (including residential or business).
- Pick the same service and ship date.
- Compare the full total, including options and surcharges.

FAQ
Why is Rollo Ship cheaper than the post office counter?
USPS is built into Rollo Ship with discounted rates, so many services cost less than the retail counter price. Savings vary by service, weight, dimensions, and zone.
Why is my FedEx rate the same as on my FedEx account?
FedEx is bring-your-own-account. Rollo Ship shows your own negotiated rates, with no Rollo discount.
Why did my rate go up when I changed the box size?
Larger boxes can be priced on dimensional weight. Enter real dimensions to see the right rate.
Does Rollo Ship add a fee on top of postage?
Your first 200 labels have no label fee. After that, a label fee of 5¢ down to 1¢ applies by Rollo Rewards tier. It shows as Platform fee on the Summary screen. See Rollo Ship per-label fees.
Can the final charge differ from the quote?
Yes. A carrier can re-rate a label after purchase, for example, if the actual weight or dimensions differ.
